I took my first Australian holiday last week and had a magnificent time--I'm refreshed and ready for the busy week ahead. Because I spent the week driving across the desert, refreshing my soul, I don't have much digital health inspiration to share. But I do want to share some exciting news stories, in case you've missed them, and some photos from my adventure.
RMH and RWH's bid for funding to develop new facilities in Arden and rebuild the hospital in Parkville came through in a big way. Digital health and the University's partnership figure prominently in this future:
The Government will establish the new Victorian Digital Health Command... [to] provide a way for the RMH and the Women's to support regional, rural and smaller metropolitan services to care for patients locally through virtual care and specialist clinician-to-clinician consultation, streamlining patient flow and improving access to specialist services across Victoria.
The University of Melbourne will co-design the Digital Health Command, which will also monitor health outcomes – providing data to support future clinical trials and the development of cutting edge medical technology.
Megan Prictor published a thought provoking article in Pursuit about the confusing and inconsistent legal requirements around data breach notification in Australia. Read about how the same data element has different requirements, depending on where the data is stored.
The newly released guidelines are likely to influence global regulation of CDS.
Daniel Capurro (and CDTH) were mentioned in the Wall Street Journal
If AFib is confirmed, what next? Blood thinners are a common AFib treatment. But blood thinners lead some people to avoid injury by reducing physical activity—activity that could otherwise keep them fit and protected against heart conditions, says Daniel Capurro, deputy director of the Centre for the Digital Transformation of Health at the University of Melbourne. Overreacting to a scary diagnosis might lead to heart problems, rather than alleviate them.

The desert scenes were so much like parts of Utah, I felt as if I had gone home for a week. Lake Hart was even like a miniature Great Salt Lake. But Utah doesn't have emus!
